The Middle Eastern Chocolate Chip Cookie with Dates and Pistachios

This cookie is so delicious! Made with classic chocolate cookie ingredients but also added the dates, pistachios and few other key ingredients to give it a middle eastern twist!


My kids and I love chocolate chip cookies and was looking for a creative way to add a a new flavor! I used ingredients we typically use when making Arabic desserts like Mahlab, Pistachios, Dates and Orange Blossom water. I totally "Arabized" it This cookie is out of this world delicious and has such a distinctive taste and smell that bring me all the feels. This will be the way I make cookies from now on!


Then it came to me! What if I give the classic Chocolate Chip recipe a middle eastern spin?

In this blog post, I will be showing you how to make homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies filled with Dates and Pistachios from scratch!


Here is what you need:


8 tablespoons unsalted soft butter

1/2 cup white sugar

3/4 cup dark brown sugar

1 egg

1 1/4 cup all purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon ground Mahlab

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 cup chopped salted pistachios

1 cup chocolate chips

1/2 cup chopped dates

Directions:

Start with mixing the brown sugar and the white sugar together with the softened butter until smooth.

Add the egg, orange blossom water and continue mixing.

Sift the flour into the bowl along with the baking soda, baking powder, mahlab and nutmeg. mix well to form a dough.

Using your hand, mix in the dates, the pistachios and the chocolate chips


Refrigerate for an hour.


Using an ice cream scooper, make small cookie dough balls


Bake at 350 for 13 mins


Sprinkle with ground pistachios for an extra middle eastern touch!
